The DIAAS calculator website is an initiative of Avebe, the global market leader in potato starch and potato protein, and their lead nutritionist Dr. Bart Pennings. The goal of the website is to provide a quick and easy tool to calculate the DIAAS of dietary protein blends, as well as educating people about protein quality, and DIAAS in particular, and creating an up-to-date and scientifically independent data base of DIAAS values of dietary proteins or protein sources. The latter is being achieved by support and endorsement from scientists and researchers working in the field of protein quality, either within food industry, academia or non-profit organizations.

Dr. Pennings holds a Master of Science (M.S.) and Philosophers’ degree (Ph.D.) in nutrition, with a focus on dietary protein quality, from Wageningen and Maastricht University, respectively. For more than 12 years he has been working in the field of protein quality research within the public and private sector. Dr. Pennings joined Avebe in 2013 as their lead nutritionist and market manager for the nutritional market.
